My Practice

Three modalities, one continuous tradition.

I see Chinese Medicine as a complete healthcare system, as well as a complement to other practices. My work sits comfortably alongside Western Medicine, chiropractic, and massage therapy, often filling in the spaces those modalities leave behind, easing side effects, calming the nervous system, and helping the body integrate the support it’s already receiving. Chinese Medicine treats the body, mind, and spirit as an integrated whole.

Treatment plans are individualized, based on signs and symptoms.

  • 01

    Acupuncture

Gentle, precise needle therapy is used to restore the natural flow of qi and address pain, stress, sleep, and chronic conditions.

  • 02

    Herbal Remedies

Custom formulas are drawn from the classical Chinese pharmacopoeia, tailored to your constitution and the pattern you're carrying right now.

  • 03

    Qi Gong

Slow, breath-led movement practices are taught to help you cultivate vitality, calm the mind, and support long-term wellbeing.

About

A patient-first approach.

Ruth Richards, L.Ac.

Chinese medicine is a craft of attention. Every session I offer begins with conversation, the kind that has space for what you might otherwise leave unsaid, followed by careful pulse and tongue diagnosis, and a treatment shaped to where your body is today.

People come to me for relief from pain, stress, sleep difficulties, digestive concerns, and the quiet erosion of vitality that modern life can bring. They stay because the work goes deeper than symptom management.

I’m a licensed acupuncturist, trained at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, where I studied all three of the modalities I practice today: acupuncture, herbal medicine, and Qi Gong. I’ve been deepening that work in clinic and study since 2004.

Outside the treatment room I’m a passionate herbal botanist and gardener. Tending plants and learning their character has shaped how I think about formulas, seasons, and healing. It’s reinforced a belief I bring into every visit: food is medicine, and the simplest, most local choices are often the most profound.

My practice is small by design, with generous time set aside for each appointment. New patients are welcome.
